Turn them over in the mind, a rock tumbler of joy. Everyday happinesses -- a jar of olives, the ocean in your mind, a deep breath and a hot shower -- all is full of love.
A gust of wind so forceful it knocks things to the ground.
Gazing out a fourth floor window onto the city below, the air wet from rain, people hurrying along the streets.
A single finger grazing your jawline.
The exact second you finally fall asleep.
Oyster forks and long cocktail spoons.
A cold towel on the back of your neck.
Big windows that all the light in that you could ever want.
A friendly face in a foreign country, someone to answer your questions, to help you feel at home.
Tote bags.
Friendly competition that leaves you energized.
Getting new tires on your car, knowing you won’t have to change them again for a few years.
A really good hair day.
Ornate golden picture frames like in a museum.
Stumbling into a coffee shop with the most extraordinary coffee you’ve ever had.
A really ripe avocado.
As you fall asleep, the sound of the freeway melding and changing until it sounds like the ocean in your mind.
A jar of olives.
Taking the deepest breath you possibly can, in through your nose and releasing it all at once.
The warmth of a hot shower, how good it feels to stand under the water.
That even on a day where everything has gone wrong, you can look back and find a few hidden gems of happiness, if you know how to look for them.
