Episode 5: Happiness Spells for Romantic Love
It's almost Valentine's Day, and here's our tribute to the acts of falling in love, being in love, and finding yourself -- in love.
Not having to wonder how they feel about you.
Almost falling on the ice, grabbing at their arm, being held up as you both laugh, half with sheer terror, half with joy.
Marveling at their sweet face looking so intently at you, you mentally trace the gentle curve of their jawline, you can almost feel the weight of their hand on your own.
Moving past fear to say what it is that you want, what it is that you need and saying what you will not live with or you cannot abide, what will not be a part of your own future.
Seeing the one you love in a crowd just a moment before they see you, thinking about how beautiful they are, do other people even see the glory before them?
Hearing every single love song as if for the first time and realizing they were all written just for you and you alone.
Understanding the shape of your own desire, the depth of longing, something more complex than you ever even knew possible.
Knowing that you have a soft landing.
Listening to your song, there’s always one or two that ties you two together in a sunny daydream that lasts a few gorgeous minutes.
Each “yes” that moves you forward, each “I feel that way too” that binds you closer.
Allowing yourself to be happy, even if it may only last a few years or a few decades or a few lifetimes.
Showing them the places that you loved, experiencing them again as if for the very first time.
Seeing parts of the world in a new light, being brought into a whole new understanding of your own life, a new appreciation for adventure, for work, for experience beyond.
Indulging in the silliness that can exists between two people in love, a quiet jokes, the in-between and silly voices, the simple games.
When they have learned to love you well in return, when they study you like a book, not to perform tasks by rote but because to give and give well is love, is joy unceasing.
Being seen, being heard, being understood, being known, being noticed not for the first time but in a new light.
