Episode 87: Let's Stay Up All Night Talking on the Phone

An episode filled with everyday happinesses. Movies that change who you are, learning how to eat with chopsticks, the beauty of your own front door after a long trip far from home.

How beautiful your own front door looks to you, when you’ve been traveling for a while.

Brightly colored ceramic bowls in the cupboard, peeking out every time you open the door.

Learning how to use chopsticks.

A philly cheesesteak, dripping with cheese whiz, mushrooms and peppers.

When a family member calls just to say hi and you stay on the phone longer than you thought you might.

Wandering around the neighborhood and being amazed at the sheer number of flowers blooming all around you.

Going into a movie as one person, and being so changed by what you see, you leave a different person.

Re-reading a book from childhood and seeing all of it through a different lens.

A mural that covers up old graffiti, something beautiful and new finding a home.

Wearing your lucky socks to a meeting or interview.

Learning the names of colors that you wouldn’t normally know -- chartreuse, puce, sarcoline, mikado, wenge.

Swimming in the warm ocean water when suddenly you spot a sea turtle, you love it so much they have to practically drag you out of the water.

Listening to a mother speak gibberish with her baby, how sweet they are together, their own little world, their own little language.

A brand new pair of tweezers, so sharp and skillful.

Purple roses slung together in a vase, their color so wild it surprises you every time you see it out of the corner of your eye.

Visiting a line dancing hall and learning a dance, even though you’re terrible, it’s fun to move in time to the music, to dance with other people.

Looking up at the moon, knowing so many other people are looking up at it too and have for endless years before you.

Spending a holiday meal with your family, they may be strange but they know you so well.

Celebrating a birthday with a friend you haven’t seen in a long time.
